Vladimir Metelitsa joined GERICS as a doctoral candidate in September 2020. His work is part of the Cluster of Excellence “Climate, Climatic Change, and Society” (CLICCS) at the University of Hamburg. Vladimir will develop an interface that simplifies access to model results, and allows to interact with models without having an in-depth understanding of the subject matter.

Vladimir brings to GERICS a combination of knowledge, skills and experiences on the intersection of climate change, social science and informatics. He recently obtained a MSc degree in Global Change Ecology from the University of Bayreuth with a thesis focusing on the assessment of impacts of climate and land use change on the populations of bumble bees in Europe. Vladimir's thesis on the public perception of the introduction of renewable energy technologies, prepared for the triple BSc degree in Economics, Environment and Ecology from the University of York, United Kingdom, received the “Dissertation of the Year” award. He acquired understanding of multilateral environmental processes through his internships at the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Vladimir is well versed in all aspects of Web and Mobile Application Development, having accumulated more than 10 years of experience in this area through freelancing, open source contributions and own development projects.
