Dr. Irem Isik Cetin is joined the Climate Service Center Germany in September 2023. She is currently working on KliWiSt Project in which the influence of climate change on wind energy site assessment will be investigated.
After studying Meteorological Engineering at the Istanbul Technical University in 2013, she started to work for Wind Power Monitoring Forecasting Center project in the General Directorate of Renewable Energy in Turkey. She had worked for Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in Turkey as an engineer and Wind Energy Group coordinator for 8.5 years. She was responsible for the wind power plants permission processes, wind resource assessments for tenders, met-mast applications, wind atlas preparations and many international projects related to onshore and offshore wind. She had studied and managed the preparation process of Wind and Wave Energy Potential Atlas of Turkey. She had worked for Offshore Wind Energy Road Map preparation projects with many international institutions and organizations, offshore wind resource and site assessment projects etc. She had been transferred a newly established energy research agency (TENMAK) in Turkey and worked clean energy and other energy and technology related R&D topics in here for 1.5 year.
At the same time, she completed her Master (2018) and PhD (2023) degrees in the department of Earth System Science in Middle East Technical University. She studied Effects of Numerical Weather Predictions on Wind Power Forecasts by using different mesoscale model outputs to identify their performances over different terrains and energy thresholds as her Master Thesis. Then, she studied the Potential Impacts of Climate Change on Wind Energy Resources in Turkey by using different methods and downscaling techniques with in her PhD Thesis.
