Torsten Weber has been a scientist at the Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS) of the Helmholtz Centre Hereon since May 2011. He is currently working in the BMBF-funded project WASCAL-LANDSURF, which is developing an Earth system model for West Africa and a web-based decision support system for agriculture, food security, water management and risk management.

Previously, Torsten Weber worked in the EU project LIFE LOCAL ADAPT, which supported small and medium-sized municipalities in Europe to integrate climate change adaptation into their work. He has many years of experience in the analysis and assessment of regional climate change with a focus on Africa, gained in the BMBF projects SASSCAL and The Future Okavango (TFO).

After studying meteorology at the Freie Universittät Berlin, Torsten Weber relocated to the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg as a PhD student. During this time he was a member of the Emmy Noether Junior Resarch Group “Cloud Climate Feedbacks“ and a student at the International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling (IMPRS-ESM). For his PhD thesis, he analyzed the impact of inhomogeneities on non-linear cloud processes as for instance the cloud and precipitation formation in a global climate model.
