Tanja Blome, rejoined the GERICS team in April 2023, works as a scientific officer for the office of the German Committee for Sustainability Research in Future Earth (DKN).

Previously, she was a research associate in the Net Zero 2050 project of the Helmholtz Climate Initiative (HI-CAM), and developed a web app on soil carbon and climate change mitigation through agricultural practices.

At the beginning of her work at GERICS, responsible for the scientific secretariats of the Earth League (EL) and the Climate Services Partnership (CSP), she gained experience in public relations and coordination of scientific networks.

Further tasks were later the conception of and content contribution to science communication products, e.g. on the IPCC special report on 1.5 °C global warming, or the synthesis and transfer of results from science for decision makers (e.g. "10 New Insights on Climate Science", 10 NICS).

In addition, she has been involved in teaching in the field of hydraulic engineering, where she supervised content on climate change, climate science, and climate modeling for the AKWAS project.

After studying meteorology, she completed her PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, Germany, on permafrost in a regional climate model, and then moved to the global scale in her subsequent postdoc. Her interests in modeling were mainly in the effects that the formulation of the physical processes have on the simulations, e.g. on hydrology. In addition to basic research, she is primarily interested in the application and communication of knowledge in the field of climate and climate change.
